Wisconsin Delegate On Hunger Strike in Support of Bernie Sanders Nomination
Wisconsin delegate John Stanley is on a hunger strike at the Democratic National Convention, considers Hillary Clinton to be a Republican.
It’s been eight days and counting for a Wisconsin delegate to the Democratic National Convention who says he won’t eat until Bernie Sanders is nominated for president.
According to a report by the Wisconsin State Journal, John Stanley, a delegate from Wisconsin’s 2nd Congressional District, said he opposes Hillary Clinton becoming the Democratic nominee because of her background on issues such as the Iraq War, the USA Patriot Act, fracking and the death penalty.
Stanley, 40, has previously gone more than a week without eating, according to the report from the Journal Sentinel. During Passover, he said he went 11 days without eating and does it every year. Stanley told the Journal Sentinelthat this hunger strike is proving to be much more difficult than his previous experiences, and it’s been exhausting running around at the convention, and the heat hasn’t helped.
Clinton — a lock to accept the party’s nomination for president — is expected to accept the nomination on Thursday.
